The origin story
Chef Kevin Culmer didn't open a restaurant first. He set up a vendor stand at the 2015 IAAF World Relays in Nassau, sold $1,700 worth of food in two days, and knew immediately — he had something the Bahamas had never tasted before.
Nine years later, Tropical Gyros is a multi-location, investor-backed brand with a growing franchise network and international ambitions.

The journey
Chef Kevin sets up a vendor stand at the IAAF World Relays in Nassau. He sells $1,700 in two days, feeding athletes from across the globe. The Tropical Gyro concept is born.
Tropical Gyros opens its flagship location at Rosetta & Mackey Street, Nassau. The menu solidifies around its three core formats: gyros, bowls, and fresh salads — all built around Chef Kevin's signature sauces.
Tropical Gyros raises more than $212,000 through the ArawakX crowdfunding platform, attracting over 195 community investors. The raise funds expansion and puts the franchise model in motion — 20 new jobs created.
The Carmichael Road West location opens — the first Tropical Gyros to operate seven days a week and offer late-night window service. A corporate production and distribution office is also established nearby.
Franchisee Kimberly Marshall opens the first independently-owned Tropical Gyros at the Prince Charles Shopping Complex, proving the franchise model is ready to scale across the islands.
With active franchise interest from Andros, Eleuthera, Exuma, Bimini, and international markets, Tropical Gyros is on its way to becoming The Bahamas' first globally-recognized food brand.
